A federal jury in Central Islip, N.Y., heard opening statements Wednesday in the case of a public elementary school teacher who claims she was fired because of false accusations that she was a witch.

The attorney for the school, Hampton Bays Elementary School, responded by calling plaintiff Lauren Berrios a “storyteller” with serious mental health issues whose termination was in the best interest of the students.
