Troutman Sanders will become the first major Atlanta-based law firm to open an office in mainland China, chairman and managing partner Robert W. Webb Jr. announced Monday at a press conference featuring a traditional Chinese lion dance.

The office will be on the 23rd floor of Citic Square, a new skyscraper in Shanghai, China’s financial and commercial hub as well as its largest city. Webb said that Shanghai’s role as the seat of the nation’s pre-eminent stock exchange influenced Troutman’s decision to locate there.
