The Associated Press reported that LSC board members lavished money on trips to Puerto Rico, expensive meals and chauffeur-driven cars, prompting one senator to say that Legal Services executives were "living high off the hog." Strickland, who has chaired the congressionally established nonprofit since 2003, called the expenditures "legitimate costs."

“These are legitimate costs,” said Strickland, who has chaired the LSC, a congressionally established nonprofit that funds legal aid programs around the country, since 2003. Strickland also is a partner in the Atlanta firm Strickland Brockington Lewis.
