Frank B. Strickland, the chairman of the board of the Legal Services Corp., on Tuesday vigorously defended the group from charges of wasting taxpayer dollars.

“These are legitimate costs,” said Strickland, who has chaired the LSC, a congressionally established nonprofit that funds legal aid programs around the country, since 2003. Strickland also is a partner in the Atlanta firm Strickland Brockington Lewis.
