A Chinese animator has lost his final court battle against the U.S. footwear and apparel maker Nike over the company's use of a stick figure illustration, state media reported last week. A lower court had ordered Nike to pay Chinese Internet cartoonist Zhu Zhiqiang $36,000 in compensation. But the Beijing High People's Court rejected the December 2004 ruling that found Nike had copied the artist's "Little Match Man" illustration for use in a worldwide ad campaign.

A Chinese animator has lost his final court battle against the U.S. footwear and apparel maker Nike Inc. over the company’s use of a stick figure illustration, state media reported Friday.
The Beijing High People’s Court on Thursday overturned a lower court verdict that had ordered Nike to pay Chinese Internet cartoonist Zhu Zhiqiang 300,000 yuan ($36,000) in compensation and issue a public apology to Zhu, the official China Daily newspaper said.
