A Kentucky judge has resigned rather than face removal for allegedly profiting from a settlement involving the diet drug fen-phen, according to a state judicial panel, which said Judge Joseph Bamberger's actions "shock the conscience." The commission said Bamberger gave attorneys, including a personal friend, between $86 million and $104 million from the settlement. The commission also said Bamberger let some $20 million from the settlement go to a charitable fund, of which he became a paid director.
