Thomas O. Barnett was confirmed by the Senate on Friday as the Department of Justice's top antitrust official, according to DOJ officials. Barnett was nominated by President George W. Bush in July, but his appointment was slowed by the Judiciary Committee's hearings on two Supreme Court Justices and later by Republican senators who delayed a final vote. Barnett came to DOJ from Covington & Burling, where he was a partner focused on antitrust counseling and litigation.
