Attorney Reid Weingarten pressed a federal appeals panel Monday to reverse the conviction of disgraced WorldCom CEO Bernie Ebbers because the trial judge refused to order prosecutors to grant immunity to three witnesses who were under criminal investigation.

Weingarten told the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that the witnesses, all former WorldCom executives, “were designated as targets” of the massive criminal WorldCom fraud investigation “to keep them off the witness stand for us.”
