Less than a day after 14 moderate senators crafted a two-page bipartisan deal that allowed the Senate to avoid a historic vote on eliminating the judicial filibuster, the chamber voted 81-18 to cut off debate and hold an up-or-down vote on Texas Supreme Court Judge Priscilla Owen for a seat on the 5th Circuit. The floor vote is expected today. The deal also clears the path for judicial nominees Justice Janice Rogers Brown and Alabama Attorney General William Pryor Jr.
