Three Orange County Superior Court judges were recently given an earful by a California appeal court for bungling a case so badly that they improperly held an AIDS-infected woman in jail for more than a month while denying her a lawyer. The appeal court lifted the sentence and also issued a reminder that "because civil contempt is generally the last arrow in the judicial quiver, it is not a routine and familiar exercise for most courts."
