As the debate on tort reform continues, a recent study reveals that California's medical malpractice law has cut awards in malpractice trials by an average of 30 percent -- and attorney fees by 60 percent. California's law is among the most restrictive in the nation in compensating patients for malpractice, and has been cited by President Bush when prodding Congress to pass med-mal legislation that many trial lawyers oppose.
