A sex discrimination suit against Wal-Mart Stores won class action status Tuesday, allowing inclusion of up to 1.6 million current and former female employees in the largest private civil rights case in U.S. history. The suit alleges the retail giant systematically pays female workers less than males for comparable jobs and bypasses them for promotions. No trial date has been set in the suit, which initially covered six women.
