British Telecomunications claimed in federal court on Monday that it owns the patent on Internet hyperlinks and should get paid for their daily use by millions of people. But U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon in New York warned that it may be difficult for the company to prove that a patent filed in 1976, more than a decade before the World Wide Web was created, somehow applies to modern computers.
