NEW PARTNERS Chicago’s Baker & McKenzie has appointed tax specialist Robert S. Kirschenbaum as a partner to its Tax Practice Group. Kirschenbaum joins Baker & McKenzie from the Department of Treasury, where he had a senior role in the Internal Revenue Service’s Advance Pricing Agreement (APA) Program, and was Japan Case Coordinator for the APA Program’s Competent Authority negotiations. APPOINTMENTS The Los Angeles office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy has announced that Gregory A. Bray will join as a co-head of Milbank’s Financial Restructuring Group. Bray’s practice areas include commercial lending transactions, corporate reorganizations, troubled loan workouts and creditors rights. He received his J.D. in 1984 from Loyola Marymount University Law School. Miami attorney Harold E. Patricoff Jr., a partner in the litigation department of Shutts & Bowen, has been elected chairman of the board of directors of the American Heart Association’s Miami-Dade Division. Patricoff, who currently is one of three vice chairmen, has served on the association’s board for the past seven years and will serve as chairman for a one-year term beginning July 1. OF COUNSEL Jinshu “John” Zhang has joined the Los Angeles office of Atlanta’s Greenberg Traurig as of counsel in the corporate and securities department. Zhang has substantial experience in corporate financing and securities law, mergers and acquisitions, complex business negotiations, international business transactions, entertainment, and technology. Zhang graduated with a juris doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley. NEW HIRES Four partners have joined Mayer, Brown & Platt’s Government Contracts Practice in Washington, D.C. Joining Mayer Brown are: Marcia Madsen, a 1976 graduate of American University Law School; Robert Huffman, a 1973 graduate of Stanford Law School; Cameron Hamrick, a 1985 graduate of Duke University Law School; and David Dowd, a 1992 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center. Morrison & Foerster announced several recent promotions and additions at its growing Orange County, Calif., office. Promoted from associate to of counsel are Sonia Lister, who received her J.D. from the University of California Davis School of Law in 1992, and Carole Reagan, who received her J.D. degree from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law, in 1992. Mark Payne also joins the firm as of counsel from Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. He received his J.D. from the College of William and Mary, Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 1991. Edson McClellan comes to Morrison & Foerster as an associate from Musick, Peeler & Garrett; he received his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law. In addition, Rajka Hayden joins as Marketing Manager, and Wende Arrollado joins as Marketing Coordinator. EVENTS Earlier this month, more than 40 Morrison & Foerster lawyers, summer associates, and staff employees from the San Diego and Orange County offices partnered with Coraz�n, Inc., a nondenominational family and community support organization, to build a home for a needy family in Tecate, Mexico. MoFo employees and the MoFo Foundation also contributed the funds needed to cover construction expenses and scholarships for 13 village public school children. A building at the newly renovated Gulfstream property in Dania Beach, Fla., was named in honor of Debra Koehler, senior vice president of The Wilson Company, and Miami attorney Brian McDonough, head of the Affordable Housing Group for Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson, in recognition of their substantial contributions to Reliance Housing Foundation. McDonough, a director and shareholder in the Florida law firm of Stearns Weaver Miller, has represented Reliance since its founding in 1997.
