NEW PARTNERSHIP MEDICAL LEGAL ART Medical Legal Art, which provides medical demonstrative evidence, has partnered with Medifocus, which provides medical literature reports in North America, to include Medifocus Guides in “The Doe Report,” an Internet library of medical-legal exhibits and ideas for attorneys who need medical illustrations for personal injury and medical malpractice cases, the companies explain. The searchable database contains thousands of graphical exhibits, based on real-life cases, including motor vehicle accidents; spinal surgery; and orthopedic, brain, ob/gyn and pediatric injuries. Medifocus Guides help attorneys identify key medical issues and find supporting literature, the companies say. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY: PATEX LIST CorporateIntelligence.com reports that its PATEX licensing exchange has grown to more than 9,000 listings. It includes communications, microelectronics, medical systems and devices, materials, chemicals, biotechnology, energy listings, and more, the company says. TRADE SECRETS “Trade Secrets: A State-by-State Survey, 2000 Cumulative Supplement,” from BNA Books, offers analysis of state statutory and common law protections for trade secrets and other confidential business information, covering new developments through 1999. PATENT PROSECUTION A new supplement to “Patent Prosecution: Practice and Procedure Before the US Patent Office,” with case digest and disk, is now available from BNA Books. The supplement provides analysis of recent cases, and covers reissue, reexamination, certificates of correction, and maintenance fees, and the Communications Omnibus Reform Act of 1999 is also discussed. ART LAW “Art Law Handbook,” published by Aspen Law & Business, offers in-depth coverage of relevant domestic and international laws, analysis of case law, and dispute-resolution tactics. It also discusses emerging policies, new media, and Internet technology and contains sample art transaction forms, in print and on disk. TAX NOTEBOOK CCH Inc.’s “Tax Notebook” is an online tax organizer for users of its ProSystem fx Tax system. It allows users to o organize and submit personal tax data over the Internet. CCH also signed an agreement with Execusite to offer “Tax Notebook” to Execusite customers, the company reports. CRIMINAL LAW: EL CID Blue Knight Technology has released new “workgroup” and “enterprise” editions of EL CID, its electronic criminal investigation database. It serves as an electronic index to all reports, notes, photographs, tapes, and evidence gathered in the course of an investigation. It links all entries to their digital images and provides the user with a focused tool to analyze the data and organize it for trial, reports the company. CYBERSPACE: INTERNET GUIDE Inforsources Publishing has scheduled a March release date for “The Internet Guide for the Legal Researcher,” third edition, by Ken Kozlowski. A companion Web site will also be launched. They cover federal, state, local and international resources. PUBLIC RECORDS: CLEARANCE SITE Intercounty Clearance Corp. and ChoicePoint Services Inc. have partnered to provide online public record data through Intercounty’s client service center. Intercounty provides both traditional public record search, retrieval, preparation and filing services as well as Internet-based public record services. It targets law firms, lenders, and other financial institutions. The partnership complements Intercounty’s uniform commercial code document preparation and corporate public records service offerings, the companies note. HUMAN RESOURCES SITE CCH Inc. has updated its human resource professionals homepage. The site provides CCH products and services in the fields of human resources management, employment law, payroll, pension and benefits, unemployment insurance, social security, workers compensation, safety and OSHA as well as offering news and information to the casual visitor, the company reports. BENEFITS ESSENTIALS Benefits Essentials.com is an online reference and research tool covering employee benefits, employment law, and personal financial planning. The basic site is available to the public, a more sophisticated service, targeted at attorneys, human resources personnel and accountants, is available by subscription. COMPENSATION STUDY Altman Weil Inc. has released its 2001 Law Department Compensation Benchmaking Study. It tracks compensation via national, regional and other benchmarks. The LDCBS includes completed surveys from over 414 corporations, including the compensation of 3,511 corporate counsel nationwide. It includes information on both compensation and cash benefits, the company reports. DISASTER RECOVERY The Systems Audit Group Inc. has released the 2001 edition of “The Disaster Recovery Yellow Pages.” This sourcebook helps users locate recovery services throughout the U.S. and Canada. It includes more than 3000 vendors and 270 categories, and offers a tutorial on disaster recovery plans. PERPETUALBUDGET 1.2 Spice-Baer Associates Inc. has released PerpetualBudget 1.2. It helps users work in Microsoft’s Excel spreadsheet program, and enables remote updating of the spreadsheets. The software features automated system build, extensive file restore from data functions and point and click interaction between Excel and PerpetualBudget. WEB CHECKLISTS Cowles Legal Systems Inc. says its Web site offers checklists for revocable and irrevocable trusts, wills, and trust termination.
