NEW HIRES John J. Sabl has rejoined Chicago’s Sidley & Austin as a partner in the corporate group. He was previously the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Conseco, Inc. He was a partner at Sidley & Austin before leaving the firm in 1997. He received his J.D. from Stanford Law School in 1976. Baltimore’s Ober Kaler has hired two new associates for its home office. Jordan C. Frame has joined the banking and commercial finance practice group. He was previously with the Baltimore office of Washington, D.C.’s Piper Marbury Rudnick & Wolfe. He received his J.D. from the University of Maryland in 1998. Rhonda Combs also joins the banking and commercial finance practice group. She received her J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1999 and served as a law clerk for the Honorable E. Stephen Derby at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland. Arizona’s Snell & Wilmer has hired two new associates to the business and finance department of its Denver office. Wade A. Houser, 34, was previously an associate at the Denver office of Philadelphia’s Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll. He received his J.D. from the University of Iowa’s College of Law in 1996. Kristine Hay, 39, practices business law. She received her J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law in 1998. BIG HIRES Sidley & Austin’s Los Angeles office has hired three partners from Cleveland’s Squire, Sanders & Dempsey Los Angeles. Joon Yong Kim focuses his practice on corporate law, mergers & acquisitions and international trade matters. He received his J.D. from Georgetown University in 1982. Allen C. Kim practices commercial and intellectual property legislation. He received his J.D. from Georgetown in 1991. David T. Miyamoto practices commercial litigation. He received his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1981. Minneapolis’ Frederikson & Byron has hired five new attorneys to the firm’s home office. Mary P. Bauman, 44, joins the firm as a member and focuses on patent and trademark prosecution and strategic analysis. She received her J.D. magna cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law. She was previously group counsel for American Standard Inc.’s Medical Systems Group. Melanie J. Cicchese, 27, joins the firm as an associate in the IP practice. She was previously a corporate attorney at Hormel Foods Corporation. She received her J.D. magna cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law. Thomas L. McMasters also joins the firm’s IP practice. He received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. He was previously with Minneapolis’ Crompton, Seager & Tufte. Adonis A. Neblett, 43, joins the firm as a member and focuses on the prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications. Previously, he practiced environmental law and intellectual property law in both the private and public sector and served most recently in the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office. He received his J.D. from the University of Washington, School of Law. Ryan S. Johnson, 27, joins the firm’s health law and corporate groups. He received his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1999. ELECTIONS AND APPOINTMENTS Los Angeles’ Latham & Watkins has selected Chicago partner David A. Shapiro to be the managing partner of the firm’s Tokyo office. He is a member of the finance and real estate department. He received his J.D. from Northwestern in 1988. Latham & Watkins has also selected partner James Tyrrell Jr., 51, to lead the Newark, N.J., office as its managing partner. He is a litigation, anti-trust and product liability lawyer. He received his J.D. from Harvard University in 1974. Akron, Ohio’s Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs has named Terry W. Vincent the shareholder-in-charge of the firm’s Cleveland office. He practices in the taxation and employee benefits group. He received his J.D. from the University of Akron School of Law in 1986 and his LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Akron College of Business.
