The new all-in-one portal for federal government information, FirstGov, went online last month — and appears to be every bit the clean, clear gateway that its planners envisioned. Neatly organized and using a spare red, white and blue design motif, the site is the place to start for anything federal, from State Department travel warnings to Social Security benefits to civil service jobs. The user can call up a general topic (like “Environment and Energy”) or can enter a search term. That’s much more convenient than trying to guess which agency one wants. One needed correction: A link refers to the “D.C. Court of Appeals” when what’s meant is the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
