Within weeks of each other, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on whether a pretext for firing an employee is enough to prove bias, or if actual discrimination must be shown. The courts came to a similar conclusion from different angles, closing a significant gap in the standards of proof used by Massachusetts and federal courts to prove workplace discrimination.
