FIRM NEWS New York’s Clifford Chance Rogers & Wells has created an International Trade Law Group, which will be led by partner Keith Hendry of the firm’s Brussels office. The group will aid clients in overcoming restricted market access for goods and services. To date, the group has begun to work on projects in the firm’s Brussels, London and Washington, D.C. offices. Dallas’ Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld has acquired Washington, D.C.’s Cutler & Stanfield. The firms will combine their practices effective November 1, 2000. The 24 Cutler & Stanfield lawyers who join the firm from their D.C. and Denver offices will make up the core of Akin Gump’s new environment, land use and development practice group. Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison is representing Time Warner Telecom Inc. in its deal with GST Telecommunications Inc. Time Warner Telecom executed a purchase agreement to acquire substantially all of GST’s assets and received commitments for $1.2 billion of additional financing. According to the purchase agreement, Time Warner Telecom will purchase GST’s assets for $690 million, including the payment of up to $50 million of GST’s transaction expenses. Thomas F. Lebens, 34, a partner with Chicago’s Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery, has set up a San Luis Obispo, Calif., outpost for the firm. Lebens is a patent attorney who received his J.D. from the University of San Diego in 1993. Pittsburgh’s Kirkpatrick & Lockhart announces the expansion of its practice with the opening of a Newark, N.J. office, and the addition of its newest partners, Anthony P. La Rocco, John M. Marmora, Stephen A. Timoni and Gary F. Werner, formerly members of Newark’s Gibbons, Del Deo, Griffinger & Vecchione. Anthony P. La Rocco will continue his practice in complex litigation, concentrating on insurance coverage litigation and health care matters. La Rocco, 43, received his J.D. from Seton Hall University in 1982. John M. Marmora will maintain his focus on real estate, with emphasis on land use. Marmora, 41, received his J.D. from Fordham Law School in 1984. Stephen A. Timoni, 46, will continue to focus his corporate, business counseling and tax practice on the health care, hospitality and pharmaceutical industries. He received his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1982. Gary F. Werner will maintain his practice in complex litigation and chancery practice, with a concentration in construction law. Werner, 42, received his J.D. from Rutgers School of Law in 1982. NEW HIRES Seattle’s Riddell Williams has hired two new associates in its home office. Clint Eddy, 29, joins the firm’s tax and corporate finance and transactions practices. He was previously an associate at Deloitte & Touche. He received his J.D. from the University of Oregon in 1997 and his LL.M. in taxation in 1998 from the University of Washington. Jayson Sowers focuses on insurance coverage and corporate and complex litigation. He was previously an associate at Seattle’s Betts, Patterson & Mine. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Wake Forest University in 1993. San Francisco’s Heller Ehrman has hired international corporate attorney Mark Vecchio as a member in its New York office. Vecchio specializes in cross-border transactions and corporate finance. Previously, he was a partner in the corporate and commercial practice department in Coudert Brothers’ New York headquarters. Vecchio, 41, received his J.D. from Columbia University in 1985. Minneapolis’ Dorsey & Whitney has hired Lile H. Deinard as a partner in the firm’s New York office. She was previously a member at Miami’s Greenberg Traurig New York office where she was a shareholder and head of the firm’s New York intellectual property group. Deinard’s practice focuses on trademark, copyright and international law issues that affect the protection of IP for domestic and international clients. Deinard, 60, received her J.D. from Hofstra in 1974. PROMOTIONS Richard E. Wawrzyniak has been named managing partner for Chicago’s Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery in its San Diego office. Wawrzyniak, 35, is a patent attorney who received his J.D. in 1991 from the University of Missouri-Columbia. ELECTIONS AND APPOINTMENTS Pamela Chapman Enslen, a principal in Detroit’s Miller, Canfield, Paddock & Stone’s Kalamazoo, Mich., office has been elected to serve a three-year term in the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates. Enslen, 46, focuses her practice on litigation, including employment, civil rights and environmental issues. She received her J.D., cum laude, from Wayne State University in 1983. David C. Weiner, Chairman of the Board of Cleveland’s Hahn, Loeser & Parks, has been re-appointed to the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary for a three year term. Weiner is the committee member responsible for reviewing all potential federal appointments in the 6th Circuit, which covers Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Michigan. Weiner, 56, specializes in litigation, complex litigation and alternative dispute resolutions. He received his J.D. from Georgetown University in 1968.
