Veteran litigator Reginald “Reggie” Davis successfully defended one pro bono client in an Internet lawsuit, and it was enough to change his career. Less than a year after Davis engineered a dismissal of a suit over a Web site managed by his client, the Rainforest Action Network, Davis is working for Yahoo Inc. as head of litigation. The 36-year-old former partner of San Francisco’s Hancock Rothert & Bunshoft beat out thousands of applicants — with his one Internet case. Davis took a pay cut to go to Yahoo, although he expects to more than make up the difference with his stock options, andsays he’s psyched at the opportunity to work with such a dynamic team. Another Internet defection opens up a partner’s office at Palo Alto, Calif.-based Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. The most recent departure from Wilson’s partner ranks is Peter Chen, a patent attorney and intellectual property litigator who joined Keen.com in San Francisco as general counsel and a vice president. “I couldn’t resist the lure of working with an Internet company,” said Chen, who said leaving Wilson was a difficult decision. But he’s buying into the notion that the Internet is truly changing the world. “I’m starting to believe what the pundits say,” he said.
