Don’t expect Kevin J. O’Connor to make ridding Hartford, Conn., of its criminal element a full-time gig. His boss, Stanley A. Twardy Jr. of Day, Berry & Howard, may call the 32-year-old O’Connor “our Boy Wonder” as the result of his chasing down a purse-snatcher outside the firm’s headquarters in Connecticut. But O’Connor, an unsuccessful 1st District Republican congressional candidate in 1998, downplayed the incident. “A hero runs into a burning building and pulls people out,” he said. O’Connor said he had been working Sunday afternoon and had just come out of the building when he spotted a young man being chased by two other men. The chasers were apparently friends of a woman whose purse had just been stolen. O’Connor joined the pursuit, eventually grabbing hold of the suspected thief in front of a nearby hotel. The suspect had just given up the purse when O’Connor was hit from behind, perhaps by an accomplice of the alleged purse-snatcher, he said. The man got away, and O’Connor, who is still nursing a sore shoulder, escaped with only minor injuries. “As much as my political ambitions dictate that I stay visible, this,” he maintained, “is not what I had in mind.”
