Three days before a trial was scheduled to begin, Alfa Laval Separation of Warminster, Pa., has agreed to pay $1.1 million to an injured worker at Philadelphia’s Sun Oil refinery.
Robert Corbett, now 55, was injured in 1995 while performing routine maintenance on an Alfa Laval centrifuge, which cleaned water from the refinery before discharging it in to the Schuylkill River. In order to complete the task, Corbett and his co-workers had to remove the centrifuge’s half-ton metal cover.
