When Dallas trial lawyer Steven Stodghill went to a Mavs game recently, he did more than watch the basketball game with a couple of close friends and Dennis Rodman’s agent. He was helping longtime buddy Mark Cuban assess Rodman’s interest in joining the team.

Stodghill has been friends with broadcast.com founders Cuban and Todd Wagner long before they became very rich and famous by selling broadcast.com to Yahoo! for $5.7 billion in 1999. Stodghill has done litigation work for Cuban, Wagner and broadcast.com for years, but now he’s getting the chance to dabble in the professional sports business in his role as an informal legal adviser to Cuban.
