Flashes exploded, and camera motor drives clattered like machine guns every time Bonnie Eskenazi stepped from the mahogany-paneled inner sanctum of Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Machtinger last summer. The frenzy, however, was not for her. The camera lenses were trained on those surrounding Eskenazi — her firm’s star client, Dreamworks SKG cofounder Jeffrey Katzenberg and his lead counsel, Bert Fields — both of whom long ago exceeded their 15 minutes of fame. No matter, this is Hollywood. Every publication from Vanity Fair to Fortune wanted a photograph of the victors emerging into the Los Angeles glare from the private courtroom where Katzenberg on July 6 whipped his former employer, The Walt Disney Company, into a settlement of his multimillion-dollar bonus dispute.
Eskenazi, 39, had spent the previous two years pulling the levers from behind the legal curtain that eventually made Disney cave. But although she experienced a rare moment in the camera’s viewfinder, Fields got all the ink for clinching the deal. Eskenazi quietly went home to pack for an extended vacation to prepare herself to do it all over again for another celebrity client.
