Kana Communications Inc. of Redwood City has aquired Silknet Software Inc. of Manchester, N.H., in a stock-for-stock exchange worth approximately $4.1 billion, based on Monday’s closing prices.

Kana was led through the deal by a team from the Palo Alto outpost of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison. Brobeck partners Rodrigo Howard and David Makarechian headed the effort. Also on the project were partners S. James DiBernardo, Mark Boxer, William Anderson and Grady Bolding and associates Steve Sonne, Megan Comport, Richard McCarthy and Valerie Schulthies.
