The nation's high court overturned a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling and upheld the constitutionality of a California statute prohibiting the addresses of arrestees and crime victims from freely flowing into the hands of anyone who wants to use the information for commercial purposes. The 7-2 decision dissolves an injunction against enforcement of a 1996 state law that had been granted by the district court and affirmed on appeal after United Reporting Publishing Corp. filed suit.
