A Connecticut woman filed a federal class-action complaint against a gas station, saying pollutants from its underground fuel tanks have leaked into the water supplies of neighboring homeowners. Catherine Martin says the contaminants include MTBE, a compound added to gasoline to help reduce smog. The complaint alleges the contaminants have been seeping from the Shell service station for the past nine years, and that the station owner concealed the leak from "the public and governmental authorities."
