If anyone from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution should go to jail forrefusing to reveal the newspaper’s sources on Richard Jewell, the newspaper’slawyer wants it to be him.

Lead AJC counsel Peter C. Canfield, a partner in Dow, Lohnes & Albertson,has asked Fulton State Court Judge John R. Mather to punish him, not AJCreporters, if punishment is forthcoming. Canfield argues that he advisedreporters to defy court orders to name confidential sources used in theirreporting on former Centennial Olympic Park bombing suspect Jewell. Jewell,cleared of any connection to the 1996 bombing, is suing the paper forlibel.
