Ramon Garcia was hell-bent on killing himself, of that there is no question. The Miami man had a history of alcoholism and mental illness and in July 1995 was rushed to the emergency room of Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah after overdosing on several medications. Garcia was treated and released, but returned to the same ER two days later. This time, according to police reports, he tried to kill himself by crashing his car into an expressway wall. Again, Garcia was treated and, at his own insistence, released from the hospital.

Several hours later, this husband and father succeeded with his suicide mission by fatally stabbing himself at home.
