Several of the six cases the Court heard were marked by rollickingly unconventional, sometimes painfully bad lawyering that must have left the justices thinking they could have better spent their time back in their chambers, reading briefs or playing solitaire on the computer. At more than a few points last week, the hour given for oral arguments seemed far too long.
