The City of Pittsburgh will not appeal a verdict that requires the city to hire nine white men who were passed over for police jobs because of race.

A U.S. District Court verdict in 1998 found the city had used race as a reason for not hiring the white applicants. The city appealed the verdict to the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals, which earlier this month in Hopp v. City of Pittsburgh, PICS Case No. 99-1918 (3rd. Circ. Oct. 14, 1999) Alito, J. (6 pages), upheld the District Court decision.
