Forget all that yadda-yadda-yadda impeachment stuff going on in Washington. This was a week when other parts of the national body politic took on decidedly unconventional forms. In Minnesota, Jesse “The Body” Ventura took the oath of office as governor and immediately declared that he wouldn’t schedule any business before 9 a.m. each morning so that he could continue to work out. Fellow beefy ex-body builder Arnold Schwarzenegger was on hand for Ventura’s inauguration, so it seemed certain this was one vow “The Body” was sure to keep. Out in Oakland, meanwhile, Jerry Brown began what promises to be an anything-but-politics-as-usual mayoral term by inscribing the Latin phrase Age Quod Agis (“Do well that which you do”) on a cloth mural. Goodbye, Governor Moonbeam. Maybe Gertrude Stein had it wrong, after all.
