Computers at China’s weapons and nuclear plants have been checked for the millennium bug and will be bug-free on New Year’s Day, an official newspaper reported Sunday.

“We can ensure all facilities in the country’s defense sector will be safe and reliable on Jan. 1, 2000,” the State Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense said in a report, according to the Business Weekly. A dozen groups have been conducting spot checks on defense equipment and production lines since August, the report said.
