A jury in Coryell County may have believed a former parole officer over women inmates who alleged the man sexually abused them in 1996 at a state prison in Gatesville, but an Austin jury last month saw the case quite differently.

The jury in U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks’ court Sept. 15 returned a $4.1 million jury verdict against David Taylor in a civil suit brought on behalf of two women formerly incarcerated in Gatesville’s Murray Unit. As a result of the trial, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice settled the case against another defendant one of its internal affairs investigators for $95,000, says Ted Delisi, spokesman for the Office of the Attorney General.
