The oldest active U.S. District Court judge in the country and one ofthe most controversial, J. Robert Elliott of Columbus, has taken medicalleave.
The 89-year-old Elliott has been replaced temporarily by U.S. DistrictCourt Judge Hugh Lawson, of the Middle District of Georgia, and who normallysits in Macon.
