In a case one defense attorney said has already made a major impact on the trucking community, the justices heard arguments to decide whether a trucker was an employee or an independent contractor when he was hurt on the job.

Whatever conclusion the high court comes to in Universal Am-Can Ltd. v. WCAB, the case is sure to affect not only employers and insurers, but attorneys who advise companies on how to structure agreements with independent contractors.
