Three masked men attacked Shawana Pace in the apartment of her boyfriend, Erik Bullock. It was an apparent robbery, but the assailants also assaulted Pace, who was pregnant, killing her unborn child. Police investigated Bullock as a suspect and charged him with capital murder and 1st degree battery. Also charged were the three men he allegedly hired to attack his girlfriend and end her pregnancy. Bullock had told people he wasn’t ready to be a father. The capital murder charge was possible because Arkansas recently established a Fetal Protection Act, making fetuses past the 12th week persons for the purpose of prosecution when they are injured during commission of a crime.
