Perhaps it was the $74,430 jaunt to the Italian Riviera. Maybe it was the $1 million for the corporate jet. Probably it was the entire pattern of what Attorney General Richard Blumenthal last week called “arrogance and avarice” that concerned state auditors.

Whatever the case, a state investigation into the Medicaid billing practices of the SunRise Healthcare Corp. has resulted in an $8.4 million settlement between the state and SunRise, a New Mexico-based company that operates 15 nursing homes in Connecticut and hundreds more in the United States and abroad.
