Senior U.S. District Judge Joseph J. Longobardi awarded $15.9 million in a patent infringement trial to chemical maker W.R. Grace & Co. after deciding the infringement was intentional and doubling the damages.

The award was the result of a patent dispute between Grace Davison, a unit of the chemical company, and Intercat Inc. and Conoco Inc. The litigation centered on an additive designed to remove sulfur emissions from the oil-refining process.
