EDITOR’S NOTE

McKenzie Brockman is a pseudonym for an associate who works in the Los Angeles office of a New York-based international law firm. In a series of diary entries originally published in the online magazine Slate (www.slate.com), he described his role in negotiating a deal in China while pondering the vagaries of his law firm career. An edited version of those entries appears here and will be followed by monthly installments written for California Law Week , in which Brockman will continue to chronicle the associate life.
