Chad Alvarez, the son of Univeristy of Wisconsin football coach Barry Alvarez, plead guilty last week to killing Iago. No, this isn’t a modern-day retelling of a Shakesperean play nor a sick twist on Jafar’s sidekick in Aladdin, as voiced by the great Gilbert Godfried (Bar-ometer believes Godfried will be the Cary Grant of the next millennium.). Iago was a parrot, a pet of one of the younger Alvarez’s fraternity brothers at the school. Alvarez is charged with felony theft and intentional mistreatment of an animal resulting in death after he stuffed the bird in a microwave oven a cooked it, killing it. Apparently, charges would not have been filed had Alvarez first decapitated the creature followed by a sautee in red wine, garlic and olive oil.
