Last month, Fla. firm Akerman Senterfitt bostered its image and its new appellate section by hiring a former judge. In this case it was Joseph Hatchett, the former chief judge of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and a former Florida Supreme Court justice. The firm's managing partner, Charles Schuette, says the hiring of Hatchett is another way of saying, "We're big boys now." "To get someone of this caliber, it just gives you a solid professional image," he says.
