Carol Martindale-Taylor was an anthropology student at the University of NewMexico when she fell in love with the man she would eventually marry.He was an inmate 2,000 miles away at the Lorton Correctional Complex inVirginia.

Martindale-Taylor soon found herself struggling to pay astronomical phonebills driven up by heavily surcharged collect calls from Lorton.
