In a stunning setback to the tobacco industry, a San Francisco Superior Court jury on Tuesday hit Philip Morris Cos. Inc. with $1.5 million in damages in the first personal injury smoking suit brought in California in more than a decade.
The toll on Philip Morris could rise, as jurors will begin deliberations today on punitive damages.
