WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Trade Commission has the authority to regulate at least some nonprofit professional groups, such as dental associations, in an effort to protect competition, the Supreme Court said today.

However, the justices ordered lower courts to take a closer look to determine whether the FTC properly invalidated the California Dental Association’s limits on dentist advertising. The FTC said the association’s rules would bar even truthful ads.
