ORRICK HELPS CRAFT PARTNERSHIP OFFERING ISP PACKAGE DEALAttorneys from the Los Angeles office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe helped craft a marketing partnership for three companies that together will offer a computer/ISP package deal for a monthly fee. Orrick’s client Life Bank will finance consumer purchases of the new Prodigy iLife program, backed by Life Bank, Internet service provider Prodigy Communications, and Recompute International Corp, a Texas company that sells new and refurbished computers. Those with approved credit will pay a minimum of $40 a month for two years to use a Recompute computer pre-installed with Prodigy Internet service. -from Matthew Leising, the Recorder, May 20, 1999BROWN & WOOD CLEARED OF SEX DISCRIMINATION CLAIMSA New York judge has granted Brown & Wood’s motion for summary judgement in a sex-based discrimination lawsuit by a former employee. Citing New York law, Judge Beverly Cohen stated that corporate defendants are not automatically liable for a supervisor’s harassing conduct and that Brown & Wood took appropriate and decisive steps to protect the female plaintiff by giving her a new position and distancing her from the accused harasser Warren Brown, a manager of information systems. Judge Cohen says that since Brown & Wood had a sexual harassment policy, and took remedial steps to address plaintiff’s complaint, plaintiff’s hostile environment claim against the firm can be defeated on summary judgement. She refused, however, to dismiss some of the sexual harassment and discrimination claims by plaintiff against Warren Brown. -from Anna Snider, the Legal Intelligencer, May 24, 1999
