Dr. Terence Matthews wanted to leave Fla.-based practice manager BMJ Medical Associates, and when BMJ sued him for breach of contract for not paying certain fees, he filed for bankruptcy court's Chapter 11 protection. It was the only way he could continue to see patients, he says. At least three other Florida physician groups and several others across the country are suing BMJ, alleging breach of contract. Matthews is the only one to enter bankruptcy court.
