Valley’s Hot, But Live There? Yuck. Silicon Valley may be white hot for technology deals, but it’s a cold sell for new legal recruits who just can’t see themselves living in the ‘burbs. That — along with shorter commutes home and for client visits — drove Fenwick & West north of Market Street in San Francisco to posh new offices on Battery, a stone’s throw from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe’s pillared pad. This week, the firm showed off its new digs, which include 32,000 square feet on two floors for 60 or so lawyers and vast conference areas for high-powered client sessions. The office already houses 30 lawyers. Fenwick has had an S.F. outpost since 1995, years ahead of newcomers like Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, says Fenwick Chairman Gordon “Gordy” Davidson. The partners joining Timothy Covington and Robert Dellenbach in the San Francisco office, which caters to the likes of McKesson Corp. and Macromedia as well as start-up Internet clients, are Robert Sachs, Kathryn Fritz and Douglas Cogen.
