Law firms are moving toward a kinder, gentler management style, and employees are embracing it. With a new focus on quality of life in the workplace, employers are realizing that a job is more than just a paycheck.

For example, one manager remarked on what a positive response she received when she insisted that a dedicated employee leave an hour early to celebrate his son’s 10th birthday. “Five years ago,” she explained, “I had a much different management style, and probably wouldn’t have taken the time to find out he even had children.”
