CHICAGO Greenberg Traurig’s Chicago office has snatched three securities litigators from Morgan Lewis’s office there. New shareholder partners Miriam G. Bahcall and Steven M. Malina and associate Beth A. Black made the move this week, said Beth McCarron, a spokeswoman for Greenberg Traurig. They are the first attorneys for the firm’s securities litigation group to be based in the city. The lawyers changed firms partly because they believe Greenberg Traurig will allow for greater flexibility with respect to clients’ needs on fee arrangements, Bahcall and Malina said in an interview. “Clients are looking for firms that can help them meet their legal spend needs,” Malina said. They were also drawn to the firm because they expect more synergies with the new firm’s Chicago lawyers, they said. For instance, Bahcall noted the firm’s Chicago white-collar defense team, which just last month added Daniel Rubinstein from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago. Bahcall, 49, and Malina, 45, joined Morgan Lewis’s litigation practice group in January 2005 from Chicago-based Ungaretti & Harris. At the time, Morgan Lewis said that the pair were a “well-known team” representing financial institutions, and that they had tried nearly 100 enforcement matters and customer arbitrations before various exchange authorities.
