WASHINGTON — President Bush has nominated Luis A. Aguilar, a partner in McKenna Long & Aldridge’s corporate practice, to be a commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Aguilar, currently based in the firm’s Atlanta office, is one of two Democrats nominated to fill vacant seats on the five-member commission. He practices in the areas of general corporate and business law, international transactions, securities law and corporate finance. He focuses on corporate governance, public and private offerings (IPOs and secondary offerings), mergers and acquisitions, mutual funds, investment advisors, broker-dealers, and other aspects of federal and state securities laws and regulations. “The nomination of our colleague is well-deserved. It is a testament to his knowledge of the financial services marketplace and his legal expertise across the broad range of subject matters that come under the commission’s purview,” said Jeffrey Haidet, firm chairman. Aguilar’s previous experience includes serving as the general counsel, executive vice president, and corporate secretary of INVESCO. He was also INVESCO’s managing director for Latin America. INVESCO is one of the world’s leading independent institutional investment companies with over $380 billion in assets under management in the U.S. and international markets.
